Résumé

Work Experience

Atlassian, Sydney, Australia.

Front-end Web Developer (Sep 2011 - present)

Visual Jazz, Melbourne, Australia

Contract Front-end Web Developer (Aug 2011 - Sep 2011)

Tangent One Australia, Melbourne, Australia

Front-end Web Developer (Aug 2009 - Jul 2011)

Worked on the implementation of designs into Tangent One's own e-commerce platform and CMS called Taoshop. Client websites I've worked on include Borders Australia, Borders New Zealand, Borders Singapore, Angus & Roberson, Whitcoulls, Wertheim, Calendars.com.au. Tasks and responsibilites include the development of HTML, CSS and Javascript code, optimization of images, implementation of interactivity using Prototype, Scriptaculous and jQuery libraries. The static builds are then integrated with the PHP-based Taoshop platform as dynamically generated templates. All code is managed using Subversion. Again, all sites and pages are tested across all the major web browsers.

Tangent One is a growing company in Australia, and being fairly small, everybody needed to work independently and be self-motivated, yet work closely with colleagues of different skills and areas of expertise. I've also had to lead and guide a junior front-end developer that's joined the company in the last 6 months.

I have also worked on several projects for Apple's iOS platform for iPhone and iPad. My involvement has included design of app screen mock-ups, providing consultation and feedback on iOS app best practices and design principles, and providing in-house iOS developers with detailed feedback on the intended design and interactivity required to deliver a usable and delightful user experience.

Sputnik Agency, Melbourne, Australia

Front-end Web Developer (Sep 2007 - Jul 2009)

I joined Sputnik as a Mid-Level Front-end Developer, working on client accounts such as The Good Guys, Musashi, Friends of the Zoos, Sanitarium, Origin Energy, Save the Children, Australian Conservation Foundation, Suzuki, Krispy Kreme, Johnson & Johnson, Frank Health Insurance (GMHBA), and a microsite for a book - "The Clean Industrial Revolution". I've also worked on various eDM pieces for some of the clients above. All my development work is extensively tested on all the major web browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari and various mobile platforms. Where required, I've also created optimised stylesheets for printing and mobile browsers.

The role involved working closely with both the creative and technology teams to realise the design and business goals of the clients and the technical implementation. My exprience in web design & development was sought during the brainstorming and planning stages of a project, ensuring ideas put forward are feasible for development within the budget and timeframes.

At Sputnik, I also undertook a course on Usability Evaluation, and helped raise awareness within the business on the importance of usability testing during the course of a project.

Other responsibilities at Sputnik include being the 'Minister for the Environment' which meant evaluating and implementing environmentally sustainable programs. One very successful program was the reduction of paper waste and re-use of single-sided print-outs for rough drafts.

Freelance Web Designer, Melbourne & Sydney, Australia

(Jan 2003 - present)

Being a freelancer gives me the opportunity to work on projects that span the gamut, from e-commerce sites to small businesses needing a simple web presence.

Front-end web development is an ever-changing landscape and I've been honing my skills and improving my techniques and understanding of the medium.

With the arrival of HTML5, CSS3 and much better support of web standards by desktop and even mobile web browsers mean that we are now able to deliver a much richer web experience without the need for proprietary plug-in technologies.

Besides technical skills, working independently has taught me better time management, project prioritisation and management, self-discipline and essential business skills.

Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology, Malaysia

Tutor/Lecturer (Dec 2001 - Dec 2002)

I started tutoring, and eventually lecturing at LICT, my former college, for a year. I was teaching Video and Sound Production in my first semester there, and later, Motion Graphics (using Adobe After Effects) too.

I had to prepare class notes, deliver the course, engage the students in practical assignments, critique and approve project proposals, and assess final presentation and coursework. It was an unexpectedly enjoyable experience sharing my knowledge and skills and it was great being back in the college environment.

Junior Web Designer, Neuroweb Sdn. Bhd., Kuala Lumpur (May - Nov 2001) As a junior web designer I assisted existing production teams in ongoing projects. One major account the company was servicing at the time was Maybank Berhad, Malaysia's largest financial and banking institution. I was in the team of 2 designers handling the revamp of their corporate and online banking web site, maybank2u.com

Besides the web site, I also produced several items of collateral material for Maybank, including designs for chequebooks, flyers and ATM cards.

I also produced mock-ups and demo sites for telcos and financial institutions that Neuroweb used to pitch for accounts.

One side project I was involved in, with 2 other designers in Neuroweb, was producing a set of presentation and interstitial video clips for the PIKOM Awards night. I used Bryce and Adobe After Effects for my segments.
